IT sleuths probe source of Rs 35.5 L recovered from grape trader

Sleuths of the Income Tax department descended at the Konkan Railway police station on Wednesday to investigate the source of money amounting to Rs 35.5 lakh recovered from the grape trader based in Maharashtra.

The IT sleuths are investigating into the source of the huge amount of money which was being carried by the grape trader while proceeding to Cochin-Kerala.

Konkan Railway police officials informed that the police had seized the cash from the trader at the Tivim station after checking his bags on suspicion. 

He was later arrested and produced before the magistrate as part of the investigations.

The trader is believed to have maintained that he was carrying the cash to Cochin, Kerala in order to build a house. 

He has further claimed that he has sold his land in Maharashtra and was carrying the money to Kerala to build a house.

“The police had detained him at the Tivim railway station since he was carrying huge cash. The IT officials will investigate the source of the money and other things. The trader will have to show proof on the source of the huge money”, the police official added.
