Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the State government is working on a new agricultural policy that aims to promote farming through modern technology while preserving the rich heritage of traditional agriculture. He was speaking at the two-day Krishi Mahotsav in Sanquelim on Saturday.

Sawant emphasised the government's stance that only farmers can sell agricultural land. He encouraged young people to embrace the concept of a "green and white revolution" in agriculture, assuring them of full government support.

He highlighted the recent award of Padmashri honours to farmers, bringing to the fore their achievements and boosting their confidence in activities like poultry, dairy, and vegetable farming. He also announced the distribution of 200 free solar pumps to farmers under the Kusum Yojna scheme.

Echoing Sawant's message, Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik urged farmers to preserve their ancestral land for future generations. He encouraged young people to use modern technology to improve their economic conditions through agriculture.

Padmashri awardee Sanjay Patil was felicitated during the event. Director Neville Afonso, agricultural official Nilima Gawas, SMC chairperson Rashmi Desai, ZP Mahesh Sawant, Gopal Surlakar, sarpanch, and panch members were also present.
