Late Babu Naik’s grandson joins BJP

MARGAO
Former Minister late Babu Naik’s grandson Prabhav Naik on Friday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with his supporters.

While Prabhav and the BJP leadership were silent on the question of whether the city-based businessman will contest the Margao civic elections, sources said the party’s decision to welcome Babu Naik’s son is significant ahead of the civic polls due in two-three month’s time.

Welcoming Prabhav into the party, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade said people, including the youth of the country, are all embracing the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “People from all walks of life are joining the BJP. Prabhav’s father Bhai Naik is closely associated with the BJP,” Tanvade said.

When the media asked for a comment on the popular perception that Prabhav may be fielded by the party in the ensuing municipal polls, Tanavade only said that Prabhav has not put any condition when he decided to join the party.

BJP General Secretary Damu Naik welcomed Prabhav into the party, saying that people from all walks of life, including the youth, are joining the ruling party.

Incidentally, Prabhav’s father Bhai, who was also present at the programme, later told the media that no decision yet has been taken whether his son would take a plunge in electoral politics in the ensuing municipal polls.

Local party leaders, including Margao block president Rupesh Mahatme, Sharmad Raiturkar, Naveen Raikar were present at the programme.
