Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza has dismissed allegations against him, asserting that his actions are lawful and that attempts to defame him do not concern him.

D’Souza also clarified that his wife has no interest in entering politics and he does not wish for her to do so.

“There are people spreading misinformation and making personal attacks against me and the work I have been doing in Mapusa. I am not worried about allegations. Our family history and integrity speak for themselves. Everything I have done is as per the law, and I will continue to work for the people without fear,” D’Souza said.

The remarks come in response to allegations made by Verla-Canca resident Atmaram Gadekar, who has raised multiple claims against D’Souza.

Also this is the first time the Deputy Speaker has been addressing the media after the land grab accused Suleman Siddique Khan alleged that D’Souza forced him to transfer a Mapusa property under another person’s name.

“These allegations lack credibility. Those making such claims have questionable backgrounds, and their negativity does not affect me. Let them talk; the public is aware of their credibility,” D’Souza countered.

On the subject of his wife entering politics, D’Souza expressed his belief that only one person in a family should pursue a political career.

“My wife is not from a political background and has no interest in politics. I, too, had no plans to enter politics but was encouraged by the people to contest. I have been elected twice, but I do not wish for her to follow the same path,” said D’Souza, who recently got married.

The MLA concluded by reaffirming his commitment to serving the people of Mapusa, stating that baseless allegations will not deter him from his responsibilities.
