Velim MLA Cruz Silva has expressed strong opposition to hosting the Sunburn music festival in South Goa. He stated that both the local residents and the entire state are against the event.

Silva pointed out that the gram sabha has also rejected Sunburn and urged the government to listen to the people and deny permission for the festival.

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai joined the opposition, comparing the idea of holding Sunburn in Old Goa to hosting it in Vatican City.

He emphasized that such an event is inappropriate in a holy place like Old Goa. Sardesai questioned the sudden demand for a mini Sunburn festival and argued that it should not be held in Old Goa, particularly with the upcoming exposition.

Cumbarjuem MLA Rajesh Faldessai, who initially suggested a smaller version of Sunburn, has since changed his stance.

He now opposes the festival, highlighting the significance of the novenas and the exposition scheduled for November and December.

Faldessai emphasized that these religious events are important to the community and should be prioritized over a music festival.

The opposition from these MLAs reflects a broader sentiment against hosting Sunburn in religious and culturally sensitive areas of Goa. They call for the government to respect public opinion and focus on preserving the sanctity of these places.
