In a tragic incident, a youth from Pernem was killed in a mishap in Satara-Maharashtra late Saturday night, shortly before his birthday on Sunday.
According to reports, Bhagwan Kaskar from Naibag-Poraskadem decided to go to Shirdi to celebrate his birthday on Sunday. Kaskar along with three friends left for Shirdi in a car on Saturday.
At about 11.30 pm, they stopped for dinner at a roadside restaurant and even cut a birthday cake in anticipation of Kaskar’s birthday a short while later.
After dinner, they were walking towards the car parked outside, when a speeding truck rammed into an electricity pole near the restaurant and turned on its side.
The friends managed to escape the falling truck, but Kaskar got crushed under the truck and died on the spot.
A Satara police team later conducted the panchanama.
News of the death of Kaskar spread across Naibag, as people were in shock and in grief. Some relatives left for Satara to take possession of the body.
Kaskar was involved in sand business and was supporting the family, which included four sisters.
