Having recently shifted its operations from Dabolim to Mopa airport, a Qatar Airways flight was diverted to Dabolim in the wee hours of Tuesday due to bad weather at Mopa.

Sources from Dabolim Airport confirmed that the international flight carrying 131 passengers landed safely at Dabolim airport at 2.21 am.

The unplanned landing, however, was managed by the airport’s 24x7 yellow-black taxi services at Dabolim airport, ensuring that passengers reached their destinations without inconvenience.

Stakeholders from various sectors have now renewed calls to bring international flights back to Dabolim Airport, citing its central location, superior weather conditions, and excellent visibility.

“If not for Dabolim Airport, the nearest international airport for Goa would have been Mumbai, which would cause severe inconvenience to passengers,” a source mentioned.

The unexpected diversion of the Qatar Airways flight has once again brought attention to the ongoing debate about the future of Goa’s two airports and the importance of reliable infrastructure in ensuring passenger safety and convenience.
