A daring robbery at a bungalow in the upscale Nagalli Hills of Dona Paula has put the police on high alert. Special teams have been formed to trace the culprits, who are suspected to be part of a foreign gang.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, when an elderly couple, belonging to a prominent business family, were tied to their bed by a group of unidentified robbers.

The assailants, armed with daggers, reportedly assaulted the security guard before entering the residence.

Police sources revealed that the gang made away with cash and gold ornaments, the value of which is believed to run into several lakhs of rupees.

A case has been registered at the Panaji police station against 4-5 unknown persons while CCTV footage is being examined.

“We are analyzing all available footage to ascertain their movements and how they entered and exited the scene,” a senior police officer said.

Top officers including Director General of Police Alok Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police Varsha Sharma, and other senior officers visited the crime scene on Monday to review the situation.

Forensic teams and fingerprint experts also examined the spot and collected evidence for investigation.

Police have not ruled out the involvement of an organized international gang known for targeting high-end residential areas. The Crime Branch and North Goa police are jointly handling the probe, the police said.
