Goa’s first Veterinary College is set to begin functioning from the next academic year onwards, as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant directs officials to fast-track the project.
Sawant on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the progress of Goa College of Veterinary Sciences, which is proposed to come up at Curti-Ponda.
During the meeting, Sawant directed officials to adhere to strict timelines and ensure timely coordination with the Government of India.
The meeting also finalized plans for land transfer, infrastructure upgrades, staff recruitment, laboratories, and livestock farms. The proposal is pending for approval from the Veterinary Council of India and Goa University.
The college will offer a 60-seat BVSc & AH (Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry) programme, pending approvals from the Veterinary Council of India and Goa University.
The college will also offer training to students in veterinary care, animal husbandry, and related fields.
The State government had approved the college's establishment in November, last year. Currently, on an average, 11 students travel to Maharashtra every year to study veterinary science at colleges with seats reserved for Goans.
