Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa and Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas have both highlighted the growing concerns over illegal gambling in Goa, emphasising its negative impact on local communities. MLA Viegas brought the attention to a specific form of local gambling known as ‘godgodo’. He criticised the widespread nature of this gambling practice, which has expanded beyond its traditional association with festivals and celebrations. He pointed out that ‘godgodo’ is now being played in every corner of the State, causing significant problems for families and disrupting community life. Viegas called for a State-wide crackdown on ‘godgodo’, highlighting its destructive impact on families and the urgent need for intervention. MLA D’Costa praised the efforts of the Home Department in curbing illegal gambling within his constituency. He emphasised that the welfare of the youth is a higher priority than the revenue generated from such activities.
