PANAJI: Eighteen persons lost their lives to 15 fatal accidents recorded in September, the month that also a total of 195 road accidents. As per the monthly data released by the Directorate of Transport, the total accidents included 15 fatal, 11 grievous accidents, 25 minor accidents and 144 non-injury accidents across North and South Goa.
The total number of persons who lost their lives in these accidents was 18 (13 in North Goa and five in South Goa. Thirteen people were grievously injured (NG– 08 and SG –5) while 34 persons sustained minor injuries (NG - 18, SG - 16).
Of those who lost their lives, 10 were riders, six pillion riders, one each driver and pedestrian.
The report also highlighted a significant number of traffic violations, with 12,392 challans issued across the state in September alone.
