Two persons were killed while one was grievously injured when two cars collided with each other on the NH366 highway near Sheela Bar and Restaurant at Terepal-Sancoale in the wee hours of Monday.
The incident occurred at about 5 am when Suresh Jaggal (45) of Shantinagar Vasco Goa, was driving his Maruti Swift car (GA-07-C-7406) in a rash and negligent manner.
According to the police, Jaggal veered into the wrong lane while heading from Cortalim towards Vasco, resulting in a head-on collision with an oncoming Maruti Ertiga car (GA-03-N-4056). Jaggal succumbed to injuries on the spot.
Two others who were seriously injured – the Ertiga car driver Yallapa Muniswami (30) of Calangute, and the passenger in the Swift car, Nissar Ahmad (54) of Bangalore – were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Ahmad (54), however, succumbed to injuries later in the day.
Verna Police registered a case under Sections 125(b), 281, and 106(1) of the BNS. Verna PSI Rajdatt Arsekar is investigating under the supervision of PI Melson Colaco and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
