Acting on complaints from residents of Tuem that bio-medical waste is being dumped in open pits near Don Bosco High School and elsewhere in the village, officials conducted a joint inspection into the matter.

Officials from the Goa State Pollution Control Board, health department and the Tuem panchayat conducted the inspection and later heard the grievances of the residents.

The residents claimed that while efforts are underway to fill existing pits with different types of waste, mud and stone, a large amount of bio-medical waste is also being dumped in these open pits. They feared that the bio-medical waste would pollute the water bodies, which are used for agriculture and domestic consumption.

Tuem panchayat members and the residents demanded that this bio-medical waste be removed from these pits in the village. The officials present at the site inspection assured to send a report to authorities for further action in the matter.
