President of Anjuna Comunidade Dominic Pereira has confirmed that the organisers of the Sunburn music festival have not approached the comunidade this year regarding the use of their property to host the popular electronic dance music (EDM) event.

For the past several years, Sunburn has been held in Vagator on land owned by the Anjuna comunidade, but this year, it appears that the organisers are exploring other locations due to an unresolved financial dispute.

Pereira said, “So far, they (the Sunburn organisers) have not approached us, and we don’t expect them to do so. They still owe us dues from previous years, and the matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court.”

The dispute centres around outstanding payments that the Sunburn festival organisers allegedly owe to the Anjuna Comunidade for using their land in previous editions of the festival.

For years, Vagator – known for its scenic beaches and vibrant nightlife – has served as the festival's home, attracting thousands of domestic and international visitors each year.

The partnership between the Sunburn organisers and the Anjuna comunidade was once seen as mutually beneficial, boosting tourism and generating significant revenue for the village.
