Calangute Deputy Sarpanch Geeta Parab was removed from office after losing a no-confidence motion 8-0 on Thursday morning at the panchayat office. The motion was brought after nine panchayat members submitted a no-confidence resolution against her last week. Parab had been serving as the deputy sarpanch of Calangute for nearly two and a half years.
Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira stated that there was a verbal agreement that Parab would step down after completing two years in office. According to him, the post was meant to be rotated among three aspirants, each serving for a year. “We had agreed to rotate the post of deputy sarpanch among three other aspirants for a period of one year each,” Sequeira said.
He added that he had requested Parab to resign voluntarily to avoid the need for a no-confidence motion. However, Parab denied any such agreement, stating that there was no understanding that her tenure was limited to two years.
