Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz has urged the Deputy Collector, Margao, Ganesh Barve to issue directions to the concerned authorities to compile a list of cases and deaths of migrant workers affected by cholera and diarrhoea at the Cutbona fishing jetty and Mobor fish landing centre.
Making his presence felt at the meeting after learning of the meeting through the media, Dixon drew the attention of the Deputy Collector that several cholera/diarrhoea cases had been detected at the Mobor fish landing centre in Cavelossim village.
Referring to the correspondence made by Chinchinim Primary Health Officer Dr Nixon Fernandes about the number of cholera cases detected at Mobor, Dixon underscored the need to compile the list of the number of workers affected by cholera and deaths that have taken place there.
"So, we have no information as to how many workers have been affected by cholera at Mobor, the number of deaths, the hospitals where the workers are admitted and whether the workers have been sent home after their discharge,” he demanded to know.
Dixon demanded that the authorities come out with an SOP for the boat owners on how to take care of the migrant workers once they descend at the jetties and the fish landing centres.
