Residents across Mormugao taluka, which comprises the constituencies of Cortalim, Vasco, Dabolim, and Mormugao, continue to struggle with erratic water supply.

With a population of nearly 1 lakh, many residents still face the daily challenge of storing water in barrels or rising early in the morning to collect water. The worst-hit area remains Cortalim, where complaints about irregular water supply and low pressure are rampant.

Former Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Pereira expressed frustration over the ongoing water issues, despite repeated meetings with the Public Works Department (PWD). “There are parts like Pajentar and Maddant where water supply issues persist. In some areas, there’s no water pressure, and other parts of the village also suffer. The situation is worse for those living on hilltops,” Pereira stated.

Similarly, Quelossim Panchayat members confirmed that parts of the panchayat face major water supply issues, primarily due to low pressure.

In contrast, the situation in Dabolim has shown improvement, particularly in Shantinagar and New Vaddem, where supply issues have been largely resolved. A resident mentioned, “We still face low pressure sometimes, but we don’t need to rely on tankers any more.”

However, sources noted that areas around Bogmalo in Dabolim, especially hilltop areas like Bhumtan, Palimad, and Kantrant, continue to struggle due to low pressure, exacerbated by old pipelines that have not been upgraded in decades.

Vasco constituency has fared the best, with most areas receiving regular water supply. Occasional complaints of low pressure have been reported, but the situation is generally stable. Mormugao Constituency, however, faces challenges in areas like Baina and parts of Sada. Residents here report receiving water late at night, sometimes after midnight, and having to wait long hours to store water due to low pressure.

Despite efforts by the PWD, the issue remains widespread, causing significant inconvenience to the people of Mormugao Taluka.
