Last GCET results declared; to be discontinued next year

Admissions will henceforth be based on IIT-JEE scores

The results of the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) 2023, which incidentally will be the last time the Directorate of Technical Education will hold the competitive exam for admissions to professional technical courses were announced Wednesday.

DTE has said, admissions to engineering and other professional graduate courses will be based on scores at the IIT-JEE from next year and GCET will not be held anymore.

While briefing the media, Secretary of Education Prasad Lolyekar stated that in all 3,224 candidates had registered to appear at the GCET conducted in three subjects namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathemetics.The test results were evaluated and processd using electronic  ORS (Objective Response Sheet) technology. The results were prepared with the active cooperation of IIT Mumbai within 3 days, said Lolyekar.

The subject wise toppers at the GCET held on May 13 and 14 this year are: Adeep Kuncalienkar who scored 61 of a maximum 75 in Physics; Atharva Vijay Naik's score of 70 in Chemistry; Hemanshunu Neenad Dessai who scored 71 in Mathematics.

The average score in Physics as per the results declared by DTE was 22.68. It was 27.97 in Chemistry and in Mathematics it was 27.77.

According to Education Secretary, Prasad Lolyekar, IAS, admissions to Goa's engineering colleges from next year (2024-25) will be on the basis of the joint entrance exam (JEE) Main scores in 2024.

A communique from the DTE also said that next year admissions to B.Pharm degree course in Goa too will be determined on the basis of aggregate percentile scores in the subjects of Physics and Chemistry in NEET and/or JEE Main conducted in 2024.

Meanwhile, application forms for seats in first year and second year of Diploma courses for the 2023-24 academic year will be available from May 17 to 26.
