Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the government will name one of the stands at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium at Fatorda after former sports minister Francisco Monte Cruz and a formal announcement will be made soon.
Sawant was speaking on his monthly phone-in programme on Doordarshan's Panaji station.
The chief minister had earlier indicated that a stand at the stadium will get the name of Cruz, who was instrumental in the construction of the stadium in just 7 to 8 months to host the Nehru Gold Cup in the early 1980s.
The naming of the stand after Francisco Monte Cruz is seen as a fitting tribute to his legacy and a celebration of Goa’s rich football tradition.
