Police officials from the border districts of Goa, Maharashtra and Karnata met in Belagavi on Thursday to discuss strategies to curb illegal liquor transportation, heightened vigilance along the borders and other matters ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Vikash Kumar Vikash, IGP, Karnataka northern range based at Belagavi, presided over the meeting at the office of the district superintendent of police, Belagavi.
Those present at the meeting included IGP Vikas Kumar, Kolhapur IGP Sunil Phulari, Goa IGP Omveer Singh, Belagavi City Police Commissioner Ieda Martin Marbaniang, Belagavi SP Dr Bhimashankar Guled, Vijaypura SP Rishikesh Sonawane, Kolhapur SP Mahendra Pandit, DCP Rohan Jagadish.
A discussion was held among the officials to keep a round-the-clock check on vehicles of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa entering the respective states.
“It was discussed to maintain a round-the-clock alert on illegal transportation of liquor from Goa. The SPs of the border districts were instructed to keep an extra vigil at the sensitive areas,” Belagavi Police Commissioner Ieda Martin Marbaniang told The Goan.
Senior police officials and their subordinates from Goa, Kolhapur, Sangli and other districts participated in the meeting online through Zoom.
