MAPUSA: Anjuna Police have registered a case against a woman for allegedly cheating and misappropriating gold ornaments belonging to a relative in Mapusa.
The accused has been identified as Kalyani alias Kanchan Jitendra Harmalkar, a resident of Mapusa.
According to the complaint lodged by Vidhay Vishant Salgaonkar of Parra, the incident took place between December 1 and December 31, 2022. The complainant alleged that the accused, a relative, requested her gold ornaments, promising to return them after using them for a function.
Trusting the accused, Mrs Salgaonkar handed over the ornaments. However, the accused allegedly misused the ornaments for personal purposes and fraudulently mortgaged them at a bank to secure a gold loan.
Despite repeated assurances, the accused failed to return the ornaments, leading to allegations of cheating and breach of trust.
The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. Authorities are working to recover the gold ornaments and verify the bank transactions related to the alleged fraudulent activity.
