The 11th edition of Rainforest Challenge (RFC) India – widely regarded as the country’s toughest and most prestigious off-road motorsport event – is set to take place in Goa from July 28 to August 3 this year.
In a move aimed at making the competition more inclusive for the wider 4x4 community, organiser Cougar Motorsport has announced the introduction of two new categories: 4x4 Modified and 4x4 Stock. These will join the existing 4x4 Extreme category, which has formed the backbone of the event since its inception in 2014.
This year’s competition is expected to attract around 75 teams comprising some of India’s finest off-roaders. Over 50 teams have already registered since entries opened in March, including Manabhum Offroaders Club of Arunachal (MOCA), Jeepers of Bangalore, Offbeat Automotives Bangalore, Torque Monsters Uttarakhand, Satara Offroaders, and Sahyadri Offroaders.
The 4x4 Extreme category will commence with vehicle scrutiny and driver briefing on July 28, followed by six days of intense competition from July 29 to August 3. Teams, each consisting of a driver and co-driver, will tackle 26 challenging Special Stages (SS) designed to test their technical skill and endurance.
The 4x4 Modified teams will undergo vehicle scrutiny on July 29 and compete in 20 SS between July 30 and August 3. The 4x4 Stock category will begin with scrutiny on July 30, with 14 SS scheduled from July 31 to August 3. The event will culminate with an awards ceremony on August 3, during which the champions of each category will be crowned based on the highest cumulative points across all special stages.
