The River Navigation Department (RND) on Tuesday launched its special ferry service on a trial basis from Panaji to Old Goa in a bid to ease pressure on road transport during the Exposition of the sacred relics of St Francis Xavier.
The ferries will depart from the ‘Divar’ ferry jetty (ramp) at 6 am, 6:30 am, 7:00 am for Panaji and then ply at regular intervals till 9 pm.
The RND said, the ferries will ply initially for for the next four days on a trial basis and a call will be taken based on the experience, traffic and response.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho also flagged of new buses of the State-owned Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) especially brought in for the Exposition.
The KTC deployed five new buses on routes to Old Goa on Tuesday, which were flagged off by the minister.
Godinho said KTCL had ordered 30 new buses exclusively for the Exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier of which five arrived on Monday and were immediately pressed into service on Tuesday.
