Valpoi locals slam Velingkar, demand action

VALPOI

The Christian community in Valpoi expressed outrage over derogatory comments made by Subhash Velingkar regarding St Francis Xavier, prompting them to submit a memorandum to Police Inspector Videsh Shirodkar. The memorandum demands the immediate filing of a First Information Report (FIR) and Velingkar's arrest.

On Saturday evening, over 100 protesters gathered at the Valpoi police station to voice their anger against Velingkar. Fr Robert Fernandes of the Valpoi Church addressed the media, stating that the people of Goa have long lived in peace and harmony. He emphasised that Velingkar's remarks have not only hurt the Catholic community but have also disturbed the overall peaceful atmosphere in the region.

Ashley Pinho added that Velingkar has made numerous controversial statements that have offended the public. He asserted that the agitation would continue until the Goa government takes appropriate action against Velingkar.

In response to the protests, Inspector Shirodkar assured the delegation that a thorough inquiry would be conducted and necessary action would be taken. He urged the protesters to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to maintain peace in Goa, promising that an appropriate decision would be made in consultation with senior officers.
