As pre-monsoon showers continued, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa has forecast light to very light rainfall for the next two days, hence Yellow Alert.

However, despite the rainfall, Goa received no respite from the heat as Panaji recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2°C on Tuesday. The feel-like temperature soared to 44°C whereas Mormugao saw a slightly lower maximum of 33.4°C. The minimum temperature across both districts dropped to approximately 26°C.

Ponda received about 9 mm of light rainfall while Sanquelim and Panaji recorded 1.8 mm and 1.2 mm, respectively, categorized as very light rainfall.

The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall across Goa on April 2 accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated places and scattered rainfall on April 3.

The ongoing weather conditions are attributed to a cyclonic circulation that has shifted from Marathwada to Madhya Maharashtra at 0.9 km above mean sea level.

“A trough extends from south Chhattisgarh to this cyclonic circulation, passing through Vidarbha and Marathwada at the same altitude. Another north-south trough stretches from the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra to the Comorin area, crossing Karnataka and Tamil Nadu,” reads the IMD note.
