The North Goa police completed the verification of over 55,000 tenants across the district in October alone, bringing the total number of verifications to over 1 lakh so far.

Details shared by the Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Akshat Kaushal states police are now focusing on verifying the credentials of tenants and taking appropriate action against those found with a criminal background.

“A record-breaking 55,026 tenant verifications were completed in October, making this one of the highest figures for tenant verifications conducted in a single month. Till date, over 1 lakh tenants have been verified in North District alone,” he said while addressing a press conference on Saturday.

Currently, he added, they are verifying the backgrounds of all these persons with appropriate actions taken against those with dubious histories.

“Reports are being submitted to Deputy Collectors for householders who have rented their premises without proper verification. This step reinforces accountability among property owners, discouraging the facilitation of unverified tenancy,” he added.

The highest 19114 verifications were recorded in the jurisdiction of Porvorim police station, followed by 17982 at Calangute and 12215 in Old Goa.

As Goa inches closer to the peak tourist season and the upcoming Exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier, the SP assured to intensify tenant verification drives to address the unique security challenges that accompany these events.

“Increased vigilance through tenant verification will not only ensure the safety of local residents but also provide a secure environment for visitors. This initiative will continue in the future and we remain committed to achieving further success in this drive, reinforcing a safe and secure environment for the people of North District,” he said.
