Based on response, tender will be issued for project

MARGAO
Call it a sheer coincidence or otherwise that when the government has finally floated an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the multi-level parking project in the commercial capital, it would be a decade this year since the Margao Municipal Council had first laid the foundation stone for a multi-level car park in the city in the year 2015.
In fact, what was proposed 10 years ago on September 15, 2015 has not become a reality till date, indicating that the commercial capital is behind by a decade in creating a multi-level parking facility to meet the parking space constraints in the commercial capital.
Consider this. Margao MLA Digambar Kamat had earlier this week announced that the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has floated an Expression of Interest (EOI) to set up a hydraulic parking project in the city. Take note, GSUDA had earlier floated a tender for the construction of a multi-level parking lot with ramps, before abandoning the project for want of bidders.
Inquiries has revealed that the EOI is just the beginning of the process which has been set in motion by GSUDA as a deposit work for the Margao Municipal Council. For, a GSUDA official informed that based on the proposals received from the bidders, the agency will float a tender inviting bids from prospective bidders to execute the hydraulic parking project. “GSUDA will open the EOI on May 5. Based on the response, the agency will float a tender inviting bidders to execute the project. This will consume some time before the job is finally allocated by the agency”, the GSUDA official added.
By the time the mandatory codal formalities are completed by GSUDA culminating in the issuance of work order, sources said it would be a decade since the first foundation stone was laid for the parking project in the commercial capital.
A senior official pointed out that a multi-level car parking facility was a dire need in the commercial capital a decade ago.
“This project was proposed in 2015. What it simply means is that Margao is way behind in creating parking lot by 10 years. Taking into account the growing parking requirements and rising vehicle population, the civic body and the powers that be should not be content in having just one multi-level parking lot, but plan for more in the heart of the commercial capital”, the official said.
The official added: “Margao is blessed by two-three open spaces in the heart of the commercial capital. The City Fathers and planners should not wait for another decade to propose parking lots on these open spaces, at the Old Margao bus stand and the Pick-up stand to meet the growing requirements”.
