In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, Anjuna Police raided a flat at the Royal Assagao Resort in the early hours of February 19, seizing electronic devices and arresting 12 individuals allegedly engaged in online betting transactions amounting to Rs 3.5 lakh.
Acting on a reliable tip-off, the police conducted the raid between 3.15 am and 5.30 am, catching the accused red-handed.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Aslam Mohammad, Mohammad Hussain (23), Waseem Mohammad (23), Ayan Ali Bukhari (19), Azaan Irfan Nagori (20), Vahora Mohammad Abdul Karim (24), Vahoram Salim Bahi (26), Mehon Alfaz Adbul Rashid (24), Pathan Dilshan Khan (28), Mohammad Abzal Khan Sorger (25), Mohammad Inayat Shah (23), and Sharafat Khan Bhishti (24). The accused hail from Rajasthan and Gujarat.
During the operation, authorities confiscated seven laptops, eight mobile phones of various makes, and other gambling-related paraphernalia.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman, and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976.
Police officials confirmed that further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the gambling network and any potential links to larger syndicates.
