1.25 lakh citizens to form human chain across Belagavi district

What could be termed as a record of sorts, about 1.25 lakh citizens from all walks of life will form a human chain stretching 145-km and covering Belagavi district, to commemorate International Day of Democracy on September 15.

The mammoth initiative is being taken up to create awareness among people about the significance of democracy and constitution.

Deputy Commissioner of Belagavi Mohammad Roshan told media persons that the event would kickstart on Sunday morning with the recital of the preamble of the constitution en masse.

“At the state-level, human chain is being formed across Karnataka on this day. The human chain in Belagavi district would will start from Salahalli village in Ramdurg taluka, connecting the chain that stretches from the neighbouring Bagalkot district. The chain would end at Tegur in Kittur taluka on the Dharwad district border,” Roshan said.

The chain will run through Ramdurg, Saudatti, Bailhongal, Belagavi, Hirebagewadi and Kittur. The major event of the day would be organised at Suvarna Vidhan Soudha at Halaga, near Belagavi, he added.

The Deputy Commissioner has appealed to students and representatives of various organisations in Belagavi district to take part in the main event at Suvarna Vidhan Soudha to make the International Day of Democracy a grand success.

Elaborate arrangements and preparations have been made to encourage people to take part in the human chain formation voluntarily, said Belagavi Zilla Panchayat CEO Rahul Shinde
