In a tragic accident, an 18-year-old boy Julius Fernandes lost his life in a self-accident in the wee hours of Saturday at Verna.
According to sources at the Verna police station, the incident occurred at 2 a.m. The accident happened before 2:08 am opposite the Iron Exchange Company, IDC Verna. The deceased, Julius Fernandes, a resident of House No. 514/1, Devote, Loutolim, Salcete, was driving a Maruti Zen car (GA-01-S-9858). He crashed into a roadside retaining wall above the culvert at the junction and then fell into the bushes. The driver succumbed to his injuries.
An inquiry revealed that Julius had gone to attend a friend’s birthday party and was involved in a self-accident on his way back. The post-mortem, conducted by Dr Anup Chandran, certified the cause of death as ‘damage to head, chest, and abdomen consequent to blunt force impact’. The body was later handed over to relatives for religious final rites.
The Verna Police Station has registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of BNSS. PSI Anand Gaonkar of Verna Police Station is conducting further investigation under the supervision of PI Melson Colaco and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
