The Crime Branch achieved a breakthrough in its ongoing investigation into the illegal operations of escort websites with the arrest of two persons from Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.
The accused are identified as Syed Usman, 54, of Chittoor (AP), and Mohammad Mohebbulla, 30, of Gurugram (Haryana).
CB SP Rahul Gupta said the accused operated the escort website ‘safewalkgoa.com,’ where they allegedly posted obscene images of women and facilitated contact between clients and agents.
“After confirmation of the customers, the accused persons used to convey the said message to the other agents. The customers would make the payment either through cash, Google Pay, or Paytm mobile application. The accused received a commission in the process,” he said.
The probe further revealed that the accused were operating similar websites for escort services in Bangalore, Chennai, and other major cities in India. “The website involved in this investigation is already taken down now,” the SP added.
As part of a crackdown jointly by CB and the Cyber Crime Cell, 78 websites involved in similar activities have been blocked.
“These accused are in police custody. Further investigation is going on to identify more involved in this chain,” Gupta, also heading the Cyber Crime unit, added.
