The Anjuna Police have registered two separate cases against Gypsea Restaurant in Anjuna and Thalassa by Cliff Restaurant in Vagator for violating noise pollution norms by playing music beyond the permissible limits late into the night.
According to the police, the cases were registered based on real-time sound level monitoring data, which confirmed that both establishments had exceeded the permissible noise levels.
In the first case, authorities found that between 10 pm on March 6 and 6 am on March 7, music played at Gypsea Restaurant exceeded the allowed sound limit, recording a reading of 66.2 decibels.
This led to the registration of a case under Section 5 of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, and Section 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
Similarly, in the second case, Thalassa by Cliff Restaurant in Vagator was found to have violated noise regulations between 10 pm on March 8 and 6 am on March 9.
The real-time sound level meter recorded a noise level of 66.9 decibels.
As a result, a case was registered under the same provisions of the Noise Pollution Rules and the Environment Protection Act.
The police have stated that both cases are currently under investigation.
This development comes amid growing concerns over noise pollution in the coastal belt.
