The Mapusa Police have arrested a 28-year-old man, identified as Mahadeb Das, a native of West Bengal residing in Parra, for allegedly committing theft at a restaurant near Bodgini.

The stolen items, valued at Rs 1.20 lakh, included a computer and a mobile phone.

According to the police, the theft occurred in the early hours of Monday, around 1.30 am, at a café owned by Rohan Sawant.

The accused reportedly broke the glass frame of the establishment to gain entry. Once inside, he damaged the CCTV system and fled with the stolen items.

Restaurant owner Sawant discovered the break-in and immediately lodged a complaint at the Mapusa Police Station.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Mapusa Police acted swiftly. Despite the damaged CCTV system, footage from nearby cameras provided critical leads in identifying the perpetrator.

“We examined the footage meticulously and were able to trace the accused with the help of the visuals. The timely investigation helped us apprehend the culprit,” said a senior police officer involved in the case.

The police arrested Mahadeb Das shortly thereafter. Preliminary investigations suggest that Das acted alone, and his motive appeared to be financial gain.

As investigations continue, authorities have appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.
