MARGAO
Has the joint inspection of the Margao Old Bus Stand brought about any turnaround at the bus stand or will the inspection report be confined to the dusty record books of the Margao Municipal Council?
Three days after the Old Bus Stand was inspected by representatives of a host of agencies, including the Margao Municipal Council, the ground reality seemed to have remained unchanged.
While the MMC sanitary section had on Friday claimed that the piled waste at the Old Bus Stand had been cleared post-inspection, fresh waste seemed to have found its way in the area, making the bus stand an eyesore.
A visit to the Old bus stand has revealed that waste was found lying dumped at the area, apparently for want of a mechanism for waste collection. Questions are being raised whether the civic body has placed any bins at the Old Bus Stand given that the place has become an evening food hub. It’s not clear whether the MMC has not provided the bins since the fast food kiosks come under the commercial category, wherein they have to bear the cost of the bins.
A frequent visitor to the bus stand informed me that mere inspections may not bring about a desired result backed by action, including setting up a mechanism for waste disposal.
That’s not all. A couple of kiosks, which are mandated to be towed away from the bus stand after business hours, were also found parked on the stand, indicating that the MMC is yet to get its act together and enforce the license conditions.
The Goa police has also not acted post-inspection by towing the accident vehicles abandoned on the bus stand.
