In a tragic incident, a 3-year-old boy is reported to have drowned in a swimming pool at Saligao on Wednesday evening.
The family from Mumbai had come down to Goa two days ago and had been staying in a villa in Saligao.
The family was due to return to Mumbai on Wednesday and the father was engaged in a telephonic conversation with a tourist taxi driver.
The boy, who was by his father’s side, moved away and accidentally fell into the swimming pool.
After the phone call, the father began searching for the boy and to his horror, found him in the swimming pool. He immediately pulled the boy out of the pool and took him to the Candolim Health Centre, where the boy was declared dead on arrival.
On receiving information of the death, a Saligao police team conducted the panchanama and sent the body for an autopsy to the GMC hospital at Bambolim.
Saligao PSI David Costa is conducting further investigation under the guidance of Police Inspector Somnath Majik.
