Mapusa police arrested a fourth accused, Mohammad Basheed Khan of Delhi, from the gang who had allegedly extorted Rs 30 lakh from a businessman in Mapusa after pretending to be an officer of the Delhi Narcotic Bureau.

Mapusa police laid a trap in Delhi and arrested him, after receiving information that the accused was preparing to leave the country and flee abroad.

He was brought to Goa and following his arrest, a Mapusa court remanded him to five days in police custody. Police are looking for more suspects in this case.

The extortion took place in August 2023, when suspects claiming to be officials of the Narcotics Bureau in Delhi, raided the complainant's bungalow in Mapusa. The complainant was beaten up and Rs 30 lakh was later extorted by blackmailing the businessman.

After the victim approached the police, two suspects, Nivedita Sharma and Bhuvan Arora, were arrested on March 30, while Faizan Khan was arrested on June 21.

The gang was also accused of a ‘sextortion’ racket. The gang used to target rich businessmen using girls as part of this racket. They would allegedly get rich people to indulge in obscene acts and would extort money from them after threatening to damage the reputation of the rich.

Through the money collected from this racket, the accused reportedly started a restaurant in Delhi on a partnership basis.
