5 arrested over robbery of rider at Kundaim

Five persons have been arrested by Mardol police in connection with the robbery of Rs 1.5 lakh from a rider at the Kundaim Industrial Estate.

According to Mardol police, Chaturbhuj Ghintal of Rajasthan filed a police complaint stating that the incident took place at the Kundaim IDC at about 2.20 pm on October 9, when two persons in a car stopped him when he was riding a scooter.

The accused pushed Ghintal into the bushes by the roadside and caught hold of his mouth. They later opened the dickey of the scooter and stole cash of Rs 1.5 lakh from the dickey and fled from the site.

Acting on the complaint, various police teams were formed under the supervision of South Goa SP Sunita Sawant and Ponda SDPO Salim Shaikh.

Electronic surveillance and CCTV footage was used to apprehend Pawan Yadav and Nagaraj Talwar, both from Vasco. The vehicle used in the crime was also seized by police.

During interrogation, police said the two accused confessed to the involvement in the crime and they were both placed under arrest.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed the identities of three other accomplices, Ashok Pandrekar, a native of Kodibag-Karwar but residing at Malbhat-Margao, Raju Waddar, who resides near Amona Cross, Quepem, and Raju Regi of Mangor Hill, Mormugao.

The three accomplices were also nabbed and arrested in the crime and the stolen cash was recovered from the accused.

All four accused were later remanded to police custody by the Ponda JMFC.

Further investigation is being conducted by the Mardol police inspector under the supervision of the Ponda SDPO Salim Shaikh and South Goa SP Sunita Sawant.
