As the taxi war flared up in the coastal village of Varca, the Colva police have registered an offence against five tourist taxi drivers for allegedly restraining tourist taxi drivers booked by the guests of Zuri White Sands Resorts.
The incident had occurred on April 17 at around 3 pm at the entrance gate of Zuri White Sands Resort, Pedda-Varca.
The five taxi drivers have been accused by the police for allegedly forming an unlawful assembly with their common object and wrongfully restraining the other tourist taxi drivers booked by the guest of Zuri White Sands Resort which had come to pick them up for a drop at the airport.
The police further alleged that the accused persons also abused the said taxi drivers and the hotel guests and further allegedly extorted money of Rs 5,000 for the release of their tourist vehicle over the issue of choosing other tourist taxi for drop at the airport.
A case under Section 189 (2), 126 (2) 352, 308(2) r/w 190 of BNS has been registered by the Colva police.
There’s been a flare up between the local tourist taxi operators and outside taxi drivers over the issue of the latter collecting guests from the hotels and leave the former without any business.
In fact, the local tourist taxi operators have been complaining that they had been going without any business for days together with the outside taxi operators picking up the hotel guests.
