PANAJI: The Goa govt has successfully managed to revive almost 50 per cent of dormant self-help groups and brought them under the Goa State Rural Livelihood Mission (GSRLM) in the last four years between 2020-24, reveals an impact assessment study.
The detailed study conducted by TATA Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai in collaboration with Goa Livelihood Forum, has further revealed that while more than 65 per cent of SHG have been brought under GSRLM, almost 131 per cent increase has been affected with regards to village organizations getting enrolled.
The other key finding from the report is a 60% increase in households mobilized into Self-help Groups (SHGs) from 2020 to 2024. Non-farm-based livelihoods, supported by the Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Program (SVEP), surged by 556%, and the Prime Minister’s Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme experienced a 251% increase.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, during the release of the report in Panjim, emphasized Goa's “unprecedented achievements in the growth of the rural economy,” pointing to a paradigm shift in economic trends. He credited the success to national programs such as the Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Program (SVEP) and the Prime Minister’s Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), which have empowered rural households and diversified their economic activities.
Minister for Rural Development, Govind Gaude, also praised the developments, noting, "The disbursement of startup funds to VOs has grown by 158%, strengthening their organizational structures and improving access to resources."
