Belgaum tech firm holds training

Extortion, phishing and identity theft are some cybercrimes that officers manning police stations across Goa are now better trained to detect and investigate after officers underwent intense training sessions held at the North Goa police headquarters at Porvorim over Friday and Saturday.
Fifty police officers were imparted basic skills on how to use open source tools and cutting edge technology to detect and investigate criminal activity online over the two days. The officers were picked from police stations across the State.
Swapneel Patnekar, who is CEO of Belgaum-based Shrestha IT technologies was the resource person and the idea is to make the Goa police force better equipped and efficient to tackle the rapidly rising incidence of crime online, according to Superintendent of Police (North Goa & Crime) Shobit Saxena, IPS.
"After these two days, the officers have emerged more confident in detecting and investigation online extortion, phishing, identity theft and other such cyber crime," Saxena told The Goan.
Saxena said, the intention behind conducting the workshop is to ensure such online criminal activity can be handled at police stations across the State and not by specialised cells like the cyber-police cell or Crime Branch alone.
"We chose 50 officers to undergo the training and have tried to cover all police stations and the Special Branch as well," Saxena said, adding that the sessions also covered usage of online tools and other available cutting edge technology to aid CCTV footage analysis and help investigate real world criminal cases as well.
