Panaji: During the Diwali weekend, lifeguards rescued 51 individuals from drowning across Goa's beaches.
An alleged suicide attempt by a minor was also averted at Patnem Beach. A 17-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh, who had walked into deep water, was brought back to shore safely by the lifeguards.
At Majorda beach, a water sports operator was rescued after his boat capsized due to sudden weather changes. Baga Beach saw multiple rescues, including five women caught in a rip current and five friends who struggled to return to shore. One man, facing breathing difficulties, was given medical aid and sent to the hospital.
Calangute Beach witnessed two triple rescues, one involving three swimmers from Karnataka and another with three men from Maharashtra. Four other men from Nagpur and Delhi were also saved from a rip current.
In addition to these rescues, four missing children were found on Baga and Calangute beaches and safely reunited with their families.
