This year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 51st edition of the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) would witness less than 300 persons for the opening ceremony.
Including the guests and invitees hardly 100 more would be allowed entry for the opening ceremony. Most of the people would have to view and enjoy the ceremony online or on television channels.
Goa is getting ready to welcome the 51st Iffi and the registration counter is open. The government SOP guidelines issued in the backdrop of the pandemic, will dampen the spirits of the film lovers, critics and those associated with film production.
Very few people would be allowed to enter and witness the ceremony in person, informed Subhash Phaldesai, vice-chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG).
The opening ceremony will have Prakash Javadekar, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting. The list of the films to be screened in all sections of the festival have already been announced.
The festival will have films directed by veteran director Satyajit Ray. These include Charulata, Ghare Bahire, Pather Panchali, Shataranj Ke Khiladi and Sonar Kela. The festival will be offering a tribute to late Satyajit Ray on his birth centenary occasion and hence his films are being showcased.
