A spate of accidents along the busy Arpora-Nagoa thoroughfare has raised concerns about road safety, prompting renewed calls for the installation of speed breakers.
In the latest incident, a car crashed into a transformer near the power sub-station on the road.
This marks the second accident in the area within two weeks, following a similar mishap in early November.
Although no serious injuries were reported in either incident, the vehicles involved sustained significant damage.
The rise in accidents has highlighted the dangers posed by speeding on the straight and broad stretch of road, which is frequently used by tourists and locals alike.
Local authorities have expressed frustration over the lack of action to address the issue.
The Arpora-Nagoa panchayat passed a resolution five months ago to install a speed breaker near the Nagoa sub-station, citing safety concerns.
The proposal was forwarded to the North Goa Collector’s office, but no progress has been made.
“Considering the rise in accidents and feedback from local residents, the panchayat had resolved to install a speed breaker near the Nagoa sub-station,” said Roshan Redkar, the village sarpanch.
“We hope the departments concerned will act swiftly before a more serious mishap occurs,” he added.
The lack of administrative response has drawn criticism from residents, who fear that continued delays could lead to a tragedy. The panchayat has urged the authorities to prioritize the matter and take immediate steps to enhance road safety. As vehicular traffic continues to grow along this key route to the coastal belt, locals are calling for urgent measures to curb speeding and prevent further accidents.
