An innovative tie-up between Taleigao-based road safety activist Cecille Rodrigues, an NGO ActforGoa and tech firm NineStack has raised hopes of resolving micro-level civic governance issues.

The collaborative process kicked-off when citizens of Taleigao and others, along with Cecille, collected data by pinning issues related to road safety in and around the village of Taleigao using the ‘PinIt App’.

The PinIt App offers 11 different categories which deal with issues as diverse as road safety, waste management, water and sanitation, health and nutrition, biodiversity, animal welfare, child welfare, education, culture or heritage, electricity and public interest or nuisance.

In Taleigao village alone, over 38 potholes among 80 other road safety issues were flagged on the PinIt App with each of these now having a digital address of their own. Rodrigues on Thursday documented these and presented it to the authorities at the Taleigao village panchayat and requested that these be included in the Village Development Plan (VDC) of the local body and resolved.

The PinIt App allows digital mapping of road safety issues with the help of the local community, according to Rodrigues, who added that it is only the first step towards eliminating road hazards from Taleigao.

Rodrigues has also proposed a Road Safety and Traffic Management committee in the Taleigao panchayat, to deal with road safety concerns.

The collaborative process began when citizens of Taleigao and others, along with Rodrigues, collected data by pinning road safety issues in Taleigao using the ‘PinIt App’.

"The PinIt App has helped achieve what we couldn’t, for all these years. It is a platform to collect and store data as evidence to bring in a road safety revolution in Taleigao and the whole of Goa,” Rodrigues said.

Launched in November this year, the PinIt App is an innovation developed by Goa-based application development firm, NineStack in collaboration with ActForGoa and Rodrigues.
