WRD opens new filling station at Cunchelim for industrial use

In a significant step towards optimising the use of raw water resources, the Water Resources Department (WRD) has inaugurated a dedicated tanker filling point at Cunchelim in Bardez.
This initiative is aimed at facilitating the supply of untreated water for industrial and commercial (non-potable) use, thereby reducing the pressure on potable water sources.
The new facility is strategically located at Ch. 29.000 km of the Left Bank Main Canal (LBMC) of the Tillari Irrigation Project (TIP).
The department has made provisions for the collection of raw water directly from this canal, enabling eligible users to access the resource efficiently and affordably.
According to WRD officials, the raw water will be supplied at a nominal rate of Rs 17 per cubic meter from the pumping station at Cunchelim.
The supply will primarily cater to businesses and industries that require large volumes of non-drinking water for their operations, such as in construction, manufacturing, horticulture, and other commercial activities.
Tankers with capacities ranging from 7,000 to 10,000 litres can be filled at this facility, with adequate arrangements made to ensure smooth and safe operations.
The WRD has emphasised that this initiative aligns with its broader strategy to promote sustainable water resource management, especially in regions where demand for water is growing rapidly across sectors.
Officials also stated that the new filling point is expected to reduce the illegal extraction of water and provide a regulated, accountable alternative for businesses needing raw water while generating modest revenue for the department.
