The elections for the Comunidade of Fraternal de Aldona, held amidst allegations of political meddling, concluded with Glen Bocarro’s panel securing a decisive victory.
The former managing committee, led by Bocarro, was re-elected with a thumping majority, reinforcing their leadership for the triennium 2025-2028. Bocarro was re-elected as President, while Chagas Carvalho retained his position as Attorney, and Gabriel D’Souza continued as Treasurer.
In addition, Dilip Haldankar was elected as Substitute President, Gregory Carvalho as Substitute Attorney, and Paul D’Souza as Substitute Treasurer. Despite the underlying tensions, the election process proceeded smoothly, with around 280 gauncars participating in the elections.
A significant number of Gauncars traveled from Upper Ghats regions, including Gadhinglaj, Chandgad, Ajara, Khanapur, and Belagavi talukas, to cast their votes in the triennial event. However, the elections were not without controversy. Reports suggested that a rival panel allegedly backed by a prominent politician attempted to challenge the incumbent team but failed to make a significant impact.
A gauncar, speaking on condition of anonymity, criticised the interference of political elements in the process.
A Gauncar closely associated with the newly re-elected managing committee expressed confidence in the panel’s commitment to serving the village.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the Gauncar stated, “We are the true representatives of Aldona’s Gauncars, and this victory reaffirms the trust placed in us by the community.”
However, a source revealed that the panel’s success may also have been bolstered by the support of a politician from the ruling coalition in the State.
