Enhancing cleanliness and community spaces

The scenic village of Aldona is set to undergo a significant transformation in its civic management and infrastructure.
In a recent announcement, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira revealed that the village will soon be placed under CCTV surveillance, with cameras to be installed at key locations across the village.
This initiative aims to curb the increasing problem of illegal garbage dumping and to ensure better traffic regulation.
Ferreira emphasised the need for greater vigilance and community responsibility when it comes to maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the village.
“We have to be vigilant and ensure that garbage is not dumped in the open,” he said.
“Many people, including those from the so-called elite class, are involved in dumping waste in public spaces. This has to stop,”
he added.
The MLA explained that the decision to install surveillance cameras was taken not only to identify and penalise violators but also to act as a deterrent.
The presence of cameras at strategic points is expected to discourage individuals from dumping waste in the open, which has been a persistent issue in the village.
He also appealed to residents to actively participate in educating and dissuading anyone found engaging in such behaviour.
“It is not just about catching offenders. We are appealing to the conscience of the people. Residents should step forward and speak to those who violate the rules and explain why such acts are detrimental to the village,” Ferreira stated.
Beautification of Children’s Park
In addition to the surveillance initiative, Ferreira announced plans for the long-overdue repair and beautification of the centrally located children’s park in Aldona.
The park, which had fallen into a state of neglect over the past several years, will finally see a revival under a privately funded project.
Ferreira clarified that the church Fabrica has provided the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the renovation of the park.
Importantly, the project will not draw on panchayat funds but will be undertaken independently.
“We are doing the park privately and not on panchayat funds,” he said, underscoring the commitment to community-led development.
