PANAJI:

In an early morning operation on Wednesday, the Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa Police arrested a 23-year-old Nigerian national, Innocent Nzedigwe, for possessing narcotics valued at approximately ₹4.6 lakhs. The raid took place near Siolim, where the ANC had been monitoring the suspect for several days following a tip-off regarding his intent to deliver contraband near the Siolim bridge.

The operation involved a combination of human intelligence and technical surveillance, leading to Nzedigwe's successful apprehension. Authorities seized 40 grams of cocaine and 6 grams of ecstasy powder from his possession.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) ANC, Akshat Kaushal, during initial interrogation, Nzedigwe revealed that he had arrived in India a year ago on a student visa and is currently enrolled in a BBA program at a university in Ajmer, Rajasthan. His documentation, including a valid passport, visa, and police verification, was found to be legitimate.

SP Kaushal emphasised the ANC's commitment to combating narcotic offences, especially with the upcoming tourist season. “We are intensifying our efforts against narcotics to ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors alike. The ANC has seized narcotics worth over ₹5.3 crores this year,” he stated.
