MAPUSA:
Anjuna Police have launched a crackdown on the illegal sale of cigarettes and banned e-cigarettes, seizing a significant haul of contraband from three shops in the area.
During the operation, police confiscated 351 packets of cigarettes worth Rs 52,000 and 294 e-cigarettes from different locations.
The following seizures were made: 26 e-cigarettes were seized from Hookie, Charvi Reemz (near Starco Junction, Anjuna) while268 e-cigarettes were confiscated from Vape Store, Tambudki, Arpora.
Besides, 351 cigarette packets were seized from two individuals from Alien Hookah Shop, Vagator.
Five individuals have been booked in connection with the three cases.
The police have emphasised their commitment to curbing the illegal sale and use of such products in the region.
It may be recalled that Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo had written to the Anjuna Police and the other authorities on the illegal sale of hookahs and e-cigrettes in shopos located near the schools in Anjuna.
