CANACONA
A portion of the approach road and retaining wall of the Culvert Bridge caved in on the main Cotigao road on Thursday morning, posing a serious threat to motorists using the bridge and also exposing the 11KV High Tension underground electricity cable and OFC network cable.
Villagers informed that the State government had taken up the work to repair and reconstruction of four different culvert bridges in the village.
The particular bridge, situated approximately at a distance of about 500 metres from the Dabel Bridge, was constructed in place of the dilapidated culvert. “Since there are 11KV electricity and OFC (network) underground cables on the route, the bridge construction works were supposed to be carried out in coordination with the electricity department and PWD. But that coordination didn’t happen and works were carried out arbitrarily. The panchayat did not also oversee these works nor did it pay any attention to the works,” informed a villager.
Meanwhile, Cotigao Sarpanch Anandu Dessai said he had inspected the site and informed the PWD engineers, who had assured to step in immediately to repair the damaged road and retaining wall.
